Unlike most classically trained musicians, Emily Misura chose to begin studying violin at age 12. She studied under the private tutelage of Kenneth Bowermeister and under the various maestros’ batons, including Anthony Hose, Dirk Meyer, Wesley Schumacher, Laura Joella, and Sasha Von Dassow. Her collegiate career began at Florida Atlantic University and culminated with two Bachelors of Music degrees in Violin Performance and Music Technology from Stetson University in DeLand, FL. She was under the instruction of Mrs. Routa Kroumovitch-Gomez for private violin lessons and Dr. Nathan Wolek for sound technology.
While studying in college, she was involved with the Stetson Chamber Orchestra, the Stetson Symphony Orchestra and the Stetson University Opera Orchestra. In the past, she has performed with numerous ensembles including the Boynton Beach Regional Symphony Orchestra; the Florida Atlantic University Symphony Orchestra, which performed “Encircling Skies” under the baton of composer Libby Larsen; the Englewood United Methodist Church Orchestra; and the Sarasota Orchestra Youth Programs, with whom she performed in Carnegie Hall, New York. She was awarded a first violin position with the Venice Symphony when she was only sixteen. She had her solo debut was with the North Port Orchestra the same year.
On top of an endlessly hectic academic schedule, she was a Resident Assistant in both freshman and upperclassmen halls, a librarian, a radio disc jockey and a model. Her dedication to her university studies has earned her various scholarships and grants including the William E. Duckwitz Talent Scholarship, the Roepke Music Endowed Scholarship and Florida Bright Futures Medallion Scholarship. She was awarded a full scholarship to the DisQuiet Literary Festival in Lisbon, Portugal after winning the Stetson University poetry contest.
She never limits herself solely to classical performance. She remains an avid fan of all genres. She has recorded and performed with various artists and bands including but not limited to Dashboard Confessional, MAE, Anberlin, The Who, ELO, Frankie Valli, Amy Grant, Machine Gun Kelly & Richard Cheese.
During college, she was in a progressive metal band called Fick, and an indie rock band called Andy Matchett and the Minks. She actively seeks new projects that challenge both her improvisatory and technological skills. In 2011, she performed at the national festival, Orlando Calling. Since then, she has played various festivals throughout Florida and was most recently the violinist for the symphonic rock band, LAVOLA. She made her debut vocal recording on the album "This Book is my Cowardice" by LAVOLA in 2013.
